tanklesswaterheaterguide.com— I was looking into buying a Tankless Water Heater and didn't realize what I was getting myself into. These things are wild, but I found a great site that explains how they work!

This is what I was thinking of doing for my own home. Put a 5Gal standard water heater after the tankless one, so for short demands, the water is already there and warm, there's a buffer to keep the temperature more constant, etc, but doesnt leak heat as bad as a full sized tank would. When you use enough hot water to trigger the tankless (same ammount as would without the tank), the tankless simply pre-heats the water that goes into the tank, so the tank itself doesnt actually turn on. The only time the tank heater would operate is when idle, and since it takes alot less energy to keep 5 gallons hot than 40+, the energy savings would still be realized.
I live in Atlanta Georgia USA in a 26-unit condominium with shared hot water. We need to replace our current water heaters and I am interested in the tankless because our occupancy fluctuates a lot --- we are second homes for about 1/3 of our owners. Do you have any suggestions about multi-family condo use? We currently have two 100 gallon 199,000 BTU water heaters. Thanks!
I went to Pulsar website but unfortunately, couldn't find anything about their product nor specs. In which way would Pulsar microwave tankless work better than the electric tankless made by, e.g. Eemax or SETS? Appreciate any info you have on their technology, thanks.
I bought a titan tankless heater, plumber is still having problems trying to get it to work right, manual is terrible, water heats up if you open faucet slowly, once up to 1/2 or 3/4 open water turns cold. just turn it open quickly water is cold instantly. what's wrong ? do I need a flow restrictor or back flow preventer. I have a well , cold water pressure tank set at 50-70 lbs. Please help. thanks
I used a rheem tankless and it did a great job, The sales man recommend i get a 7.4 instead of a 4.2 because of the area my home is- Northern wisconsin. works great . I got it at www.lakecountypipe.com
I hgad an ASCOT Brand Geyser (These heaters were called Geyser) some 40 years ago in Karachi Pakistan. The machine had a rubber balloon attached to a needle valve and it worked for 20+ years with NO service or maintainance or calcinated pipes!! When you opened a faucet the needle valve opened and the pilot set the gas alight. You closed the faucet and the baloon pushed the needle valve closed! No fancy electronic gadgets and ZERO maintenance...does anyone know what happened to that generation of heaters...I aaaaaaaaaaam on the market for such basic technology!
Can ANYONE please tell me how many cft of Natural Gas per hour are required for a 6 Gallon machine of this kind? Our Gas Utility Service delivers gas through a single Regulator to the entire apartment complex and then connects each apartment by a 1/2" line. They will not give me a 3/4" line. Most manufacturers prescribe 3/4" line for a 6 Gallon machine.Someone please please please please advise.
For anyone looking to purchase a Rinnai tankless water heater, please do yourself a favor and read the comments of "kickmenow." This is the exact experience that I had. I HATE this thing and have regretted the purchase every day since I got it installed (about a month ago). This has been my experience:- At low flow settings, the water heater does not turn on, and only cold water is drawn through the lines. - The water heater does not turn on with the dishwasher running. If I want hot water to come out with the dishwasher on, I have to open another faucet in order to increase the flow and thus turn on the tankless water heater. - The unit does not supply a consistent water temperature with multiple faucets opened. When one or more faucets is opened while the shower is running, the shower temperature fluctuates. - Because there is a delay in the unit turning on when a faucet is opened, approximately 20 to 30 seconds of cold water is drawn in before the water begins to warm up. If, then, the hot water is turned off and then turned on again, after the previously heated water runs through the line, it is followed by another 20 to 30 seconds of cold water. This results in a HUGE waste of water. (Rinnai calls it a "cold water sandwich." - The water pressure in the hot water lines is lower than it was prior to the installation of the Rinnai tankless water heater.
I agree, I got a Bosch 1600H and I regretted it. The unit cost about the same as a tank one, but installation with the plumber was very expensive and we had to do all kinds of calculation to make sure my chimney can handle it. The main problem though besides the cost that will take YEARS to recoup is the damned "Cold Water Sandwich". If you're at the sink rinsing stuff and have to turn the water on and off several times a minute, the thing constantly has to light up and shut off. Each time it lights up it takes a few seconds, and during that time cold water runs through the hot water pipe. So my recommendation is to stay away from tank less water heaters if you live in a good sized house. The only place I would get one is in a small apartment for one or two people.
Nocternaloxide,You said you knew the owner of Pulstech, could you please let me know what happened to them? I've been trying old phone numbers I had and even the web site does not exists anymore...Have they been bought by another company? If yes, do you know which company and if they still make the product?I was following the project for a long time and called them to know when it would be ready for consumer use.Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks

@ riskableDUHHH!If you have gas heating your HWT, losing electrical power wouldn't be an issue...now would it?

I installed the Bosch 125 last summer (and have a write-up with photos: <a class="user" href="http://www.knick-knack.com/howto/house/tankless-hot-water-heater.html">http://www.knick-knack.com/howto/house/tankless-hot-water-heater.html</a> )Overall I am very happy with it and it took very little "fiddling" with, I installed it and it has a knob to turn up the heat. There are no circuit boards or other settings to worry about.

Actually, it moves out the flue and up the chimney. Very little heat is gained into your home via your exhaust.Cheers

Its amazing how many plumbers and pseudo-plumbers there are out there.

For those living in the northern part of the country where the water is even colder, there's a new tankless water heater model N-180. <a class="user" href="http://www.TitanHeater.com/tankless-water-heater-scr4.php">http://www.TitanHeater.com/tankless-water-heater-scr4.php</a>Not everyone needs that much power, but take a look, it is worth considering.

i'm in denmark and my sister has has one of the electric "on-demand" water heaters for the better part of the past 24 years. Water Delivery from the heaters works a hell of a lot better and quicker than the tank system, and i distinctly remember when the old tank system was pulled out.<a class="user" href="http://www.definiteinfo.com/services/water-delivery.html">http://www.definiteinfo.com/services/water-delivery.html</a>
