upload.wikimedia.org — "Tank man" blocks a column of tanks heading east on Beijing's Chang'an Boulevard (Avenue of Eternal Peace) near Tiananmen Square during the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. This photo was taken from the sixth floor of the Beijing Hotel, about half a mile away, through a 400mm lens.

@KhivaThank you. I could not have said it any better.

hackiavellihackiavelli But the guy was not one of those protestors. It looked like he did what he did out of being fed up in the heat of the moment. The Chinese government had pictures/videos on those student protestors and others where their faces could be seen. There's no face photo or face video of Tank Man and that "might" have saved him. It's hard to arrest someone you have no knowledge of. Of course, someone could always squeal too. Anyway, nothing definite can be said of this person's outcome. If he is still alive, maybe he'll speak up at his death bed many years from now. If not, it doesn't really matter. He represents the common person so remaining faceless might be more beneficial.

Going there next month hopefully. Still thinking about it being a good idea to leave something there or do something for him. But then again I don't want to be arrested in a foreign country.

Much like the Chinese and Tiananmen, I never learned of the Bonus Army in school. I had to learn about it from a novel, long after I was young.

@KhivaI've lived in different parts of the world and at one stage I was flatting with a 20something chinese couple for awhile, they were a bit hard to read, but what you are saying about nationalism does make a lot of sense. We got along fine, but I felt there was some kinda political tension or something there. You got me thinking bro, Quite insightful thanks.

@anotherjackAll very valid points.I've only come back to see your comment 25 days after making mine, so excuse my delay in replying.I admit that I was incredibly inconsiderate and insensitive. I'm fairly uninformed about what really happened that day and should have refrained from commenting.I tend to shy away from making uninformed comments, but on this occasion, I did.I am ashamed and I apologise.
