religion can be used in a GOOD way and used to help people...for instance i have a cousin in Kenya who works for a christian organization that helps kids get off glue and other drugs.. apparantley there's a huge epidemic of huffing glue in central Africahttp://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1 ...

A little off topic but am I right in saying that these people don't get to play violent video games like GTA4 or watch violent Hollywood action movies? Now look how violent they are and messed up. I rest my case.

No one is justifying anything. I'm simply pointing out that ANY religion can have radicals who are pushed to do absolutely vile and heinous acts. As mentioned above, we will always have the one or two people (or more) in every congregation who are a bit over the top in their faith. It's when church and state collide and religious extremism becomes the norm that you start to see some real problems. The current state of fairs in the Middle East is one example. John Calvin's rule in Geneva would be another, where amongst other religious atrocities, a fine example stands out -- he had a teenager executed for talking back to his parents. The Christian witch hunts in New England and Western Europe are worth mentioning. So are the Spanish Inquisition, the various crusades, etc. There are too many atrocities committed by the ancient Jews (cataloged as glorious conquests where they slaughtered entire cities) mentioned in the Old Testament to count. That's why people should really pay heed to the title given to some on the religious right of the political spectrum -- the "Christian Taliban." Those folks have more in common with the Taliban than they have differences.Religion is fine. Christianity is just fine. So is Islam. So is Judaism, Shintoism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Animism, Hari Krishna, etc. Radicalized? They are all dangerous tools of manipulation which allow those pulling the strings to command their followers to do horrible things.-- not on the above list is Scientology, which is always bad.

It's not necessarily the violence (some) Muslims spread. Many people have a problem with them not assimilating when they come to a new country. They just live on in their bigot, patriarchic ways and stay among their own while at the same time telling their children not to play with white kids.
