He's finding out just how difficult it is to protect privacy. The Web is populated by people-focused search engines like Intelius, Peoplefinders or US Search that peddle personal data: the value of your house, criminal records, salary information and employment history.

There is a company called Garlik ( www.garlik.com ) who hunt down all the occurrences of your personal details on the web, including ones that aren't actually you, but people searching for you might get the wrong idea and think it is. I think it's free to try (it used to be, at least). It can find out a lot of stuff, that's for sure.Apparently, someone with the same name as me is obsessed with the branding on TV channels (the small logos always visible in the top corner) and has signed a load of petitions - wierdo.

Phishing. It is quite broad definition. The main goal of phishing is to get information from a user (such as passwords, credit card number etc.) or money. This method is basically used for many users not only for one. For instance, quasi-tech support sends the same email messages to the known clients of a bank. Usually support service asks users to confirm their account passwords supposedly because of server maintenance. Although all users are warned that nobody can require that kind of information, this is confidential information and should not be divulged there are always users who grant their passwords, accounts etc. This kind of messages are professionally composed and look very trustworthy that makes believe naïve users. There are various types of fishing.Recommendations: Remember that paranoia is the best protection. Do not trust anything suspicious, do not share your personal information. Administrators dont need your passwords to get to their server as they control the server and can see your password or change it. I'm sorry but why is this even making any news. First of all there is quite a bit of information that is Public Record here in the states. Second, almost any/all credit card, cell phone, cable or whatever accounts you have actually make you sign contracts that usually say that they have the right to give out your personal information to whomever they want. How do you think you get bulls**t in the mail? Did digg turn stupid today or what? There is almost nothing you can do to keep people out of public records or keep your information safe (for the most part) in today's world.<a class="user" href="http://xn--mgbk1eh0a.xn----ymcae0df5a6fo.com
