petermaurer.de — One advertised feature of Mac OS X was the services menu, that allows other applications to perform tasks globally. Unfortunately, nobody I know of actually utilizes this menu which eventually becomes bloated with unnecessary services. Now you can disable any unwanted services, rearrange the order, or even change the key command for them!

To improve the menu further, download ICeCoffEE (<a class="user" href="http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/8852)">http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/8852)</a> which will enable you to right-click (control-click for a 1-button mouse) selected text and have the services menu appear in a contextual menu.

A great deal of what I do involves writing for a living and it is just amazing how hard it is to proofread your own material. It think it's common that when we read our own writing we tend to read it as it was intended to be rather than how it really is. But a computer's text-to-speech system has no bias. It reads the text as it truly is. This little trick has saved me from looking like a dumb ass on more than a few occasions.

> chasin_fat_kids asks: "How did a link for an Apple Services program turn into flame wars?"Hell if I know. This kind of thing seems to happen a lot, however.Folks, if you prefer a flavor of Linux then good for you. If you prefer Windows then that's okay too. If you prefer the Mac then no problem. All three are certainly worthy operating systems.Myself, I prefer the Mac and OS X. But I have machines in my office that run on Windows and Linux as well. And while the Mac is the better tool for the majority of things I do, I can certainly understand why there are those who feel the same way about Linux and Windows. Why are there people who who insist on starting flame wars? I dunno. But I sure wish they'd knock it off. All it does is make all computer aficionados look like morons.
