Wikipedia has been one of the big success stories of the web, which has rendered traditional encyclopedias largely obsolete (for example Microsoft Encarta). Wikipedia does have its controversies, but these are really a side show and the majority of the content is of good quality. There's actually a lot of good mathematics info on Wikipedia.

Wikipedia would be a baren wasteland if it was free from conflict of interest, as an 'interest' is, after all, the prime motivator for contributions.
