safer-networking.org — In April 2005, Symantec's Norton anti-virus provided a false positive against Spybot Search & Destroy, a popular anti-spyware application. After being ignored by Symantec, they went public. Well Symantec is at it again, now they are advising to users that they should remove Spybot because of "incompatibilities" with Norton Ghost.

I probably should of held of posting it during non-peak hours, it slipped off the first page rather quickly and silently. We can only hope there are some diligent diggers out there that will take notice.

If you use Symantec's Anti-Virus it is your VIRUS. Have you seen your registry after installing that POS? It would make even Chuck Norris cry and your computer will be easily 10-15% slower. It's been useless crapware since Peter Norton sold out to Symantec back in the 20th century.

We've had so many problems at work with Symantec AV. The problem has been that it somehow "caches" SMTP and POP3 settings. I don't know how many clients have called up because they switched their email and it still won't work. Plus the program is damn huge....and didn't I read earlier today about some sort of "root-kit"???The Norton of old is long gone and somewhere Peter Norton is shaking his head.My recommendations: Spybot and CA EZ Antivirus for their low resource footprints.

I've once had to uninstall some CRAP Nortons package because it was always crashing Windows. What was it called again? Ummm.... oh yeah "Crashguard"

I too found Symantec to be very expensive, so I removed it after a year and installed avast which is free for personal use and seems to be protecting my PC.

Symantec is the suck.

This is the exact reason nobody uses symantec. They do stupid s**t like crippling spy-bot a program that actually helps a system.Anybody who uses Norton anti-virus should switch to nod.32. And use zonearlam as your firewall

I love how great Symantec is. Every time you need to troubleshoot cpu problems it always starts with disabling their programs. Brilliant. It protects me so well that I can't do anything.
