Symantec's AV is crap. I have found 100% of the time any system with it is 50%+ slower then with any other software .. such as AVG that finds allot more viruses, and yes i do say the free version is good, but the paid for is better.. depends on your budget :) I at one time worked for symantec, and there is nothing there that wouldn't surprise me, they are really incompetent.
I have a seething hatred for Symantec simply because 50% of my job in IT Support involves people calling me with "Page Could Not Be Displayed" errors in IE caused by Norton. Anything that makes this company less trustworthy and gets them less money through scare tactics is fine by me.It's the Internet. You're connected to an infinite number of other computers. It's never going to be completely secure. There is no magic cure. Deal with it. Don't answer 'Yes' to plug-in prompts. Check URLs. Don't open any executable file unless you're 100% confident with the source of it. Even then, check ten more times. (By the way, I did RTFM. I know this only has to do with the Corporate Edition. However, it still makes Symantec look bad to end users of their consumer versions. Oh, and lastly, that's the worst description for a digg story of all time. At least it didn't contain inaccurate info or misspellings.)
@pu-z"Get a Mac."If I had owned a Mac throughout the years, I never would have learned all the things I had to learn while dealing with this piece-of-sh*t Windows OS.I think Mac owners may be generally less computer literate, because they have machines that don't require much from the users. And won't we all get a good laugh when they start writing many viruses and ads and spy-bots to run on Macs? Anyhow the Linux users might get a good laugh. I will have my first Mac by then...working my way up.
"I have found 100% of the time any system with it is 50%+ slower then with any other software"Care to put out some data to back that claim up? I'm using SAV, but am looking for alternatives. Anyone can make numbers up; it takes time and effort to get *good* data.
But seriously folks, maybe it's time to wave the white flag and cash out your remaining chips in the MS windows, mega economy, cesspool. Probably more than 90% of corporations and users could switch to some other, better OS without much downside and tremendous upside.Just my 2 pence

Windows XP $129, anti-spyware software $49, anti-virus software $65, and you're still vulnerable priceless.
