youtube.com— Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun. Shine on you crazy diamond. Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky. Shine on you crazy diamond.

The Syd Barret-era of Pink Floyd is amazing, it's different sound from anything they produced and wrote after that. Shine is a great tribute to Syd because it's the later sound of Floyd paying tribute to an influence that made them what they were. The madness and the genius shall never forgotten."You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon."
Piper at the gates was revolutionary record in my mind. I remember the first time I cued it up, we did it proper with the 33' and a mind full of booze and drug. Still to this day there is no other album that has taken hold of me like Syd's work. Tonight I shall cue up the mono vr. of Piper 33 and have a drink to remember a man, that so many thought was mad.... But to some was a glimpse at something real."Music seems to help the pain Seems to cultivate the brain. Doctor kindly tell your wife that I'm alive - flowers thrive - realize - realize Realize. "
Right, I was aware of that. I'm certainly not trying to give Pink Floyd credit for the entire psychedlia thing. They were just the first band (underground and largely unknown at the time) to do all the things we think of when the phrase "psychedelic music" comes to mind. Most people point to the Beatles as the start, but Pink Floyd were doing the whole psychedelic music thing many years before the Beatles hit on it. It's no coincidence that the Beatles paid a couple visits to Pink Floyd when the Floyd were in the studio recording their first album and that John Lennon was spotted (on film even) at some of Pink Floyd's early gigs. I'm not trying to accuse the Beatles of stealing, but they were definitely influenced by Pink Floyd's early shows and style of music--and that influence led to some of the Beatles' best music.
I don't disagree with removing him - that was the obvious thing to do. It just strikes me as a little hypocritical to gush over him years later when they never really had the decency to tell him to his face he was out. I suppose some may say it would have been like talking to a wall (no pun intended), and pointless. Aside, looking past that - the music they made was true brilliance.

If that song is not EPIC, I don't know what is.

While I love The Floyd and give them all credit for their part, Google the Acid Tests.
