npr.org — The swine flu panic has faded, but the damage could be lasting to Mexico's tourism industry. Millions of dollars of have been lost from the country's third largest source of revenue. The Caribbean resort of Cancun has been particularly hard hit, with 22 hotels closed and about 10,000 workers furloughed.

The thing to remember is, there's a ton of places to go on vacation that are all pretty great, so any little thing can chase people away. I mean, sure, the odds of you dying from swine flu are miniscule (however, the odds of you getting it and getting sick are much higher, as are your odds of bringing it back with you), but there's no good reason you couldn't just go tour Yellowstone this time, or go somewhere else in the Caribbean, or maybe see Hawaii, and leave Mexico alone until this blows over. I know it's already past the point of containment and then some, but don't go help it along just because you don't wanna make new vacation plans.

I just traveled to Mexico last week, I went to Tulum (one hour south of Cancun). There is no reason not to go, I am fine and no one there even knew anyone who had the flu. Great time to go if you're the type who doesn't believe everything they hear. I had an amazing time in a tourist free paradise.

I feel it's safe to say that most people who travel to Mexico are High Schooler kids going to feel cool and drink at a bar. Once I turned 21 I said f**k mexico, most of it is a s**t hole. Besides I live in Phoenix and it's basically Mexico anyways.

Who posts replies on comments that are four months old on Digg?!? I was puzzled, but then I looked at your profile. Did a search for Mexico and decided to troll some people who you think will never respond, eh? Feel that bad about Mexico that you have to make comments on long forgotten articles?
