spiegel.de— What do Volvo, Ericsson, Saab and IKEA have in common? The people of Sweden have more faith in them than in the church.

How do they define "the Church"? The right definition is the entire body of Christ - all christians. But this article refers to a particular lutheran denomition (the swedish church), which can or cannot be trusted without that having anything to do with trusting or not trusting in God.There´s several denomitions I probably can´t trust completely, but I fully trust God.
> Was there some kind of Swedish Coke scare that went unreported or something?I'm from Sweden and don't trust Coca-Cola much. First, their primary goal is to sell as much unhealthy stuff as possible. Second, any company trying to lure small children into buying unhealthy things doesn't deserve to be trusted.
I agree, that's like saying, I'd rather believe in a magical friend to save my life, instead of a seatbelt, if I'm ever in a car accident with my volvo.
the reason that most of us (the swedes) have a distant relationship with faith and church is that because in school we are not told that there is a god, we are told that some people choose to believe in some sort of Deity and left to make up our own mind in the matter.and being reasonable people most of us come to the conclusion that the existence of a god is just ridiculous. But we do respect those people who find it comforting or what not to believe. so come to Sweden, the land of high speed low cost Internet, hot blond girls and true religious freedom. :)
You know, those "dead religions" only died out because the Roman empire was falling apart and decided to maintain its power through the propagation of a middle-eastern brand of mumbo-jumbo that they'd enhanced for marketability. I'd much rather learn about the past practices of my European ancestors than some middle-eastern apocalypse fable. The biggest problem with that is that Rome destroyed most of the documents and artifacts of native European religions and puts its practitioners to death.
Depends. If the 5 year old boy was a Jew he would be more safe with #2. Your biggest problem is you equate priests with the entirety of Christianity which is a fallacy. The Catholics believe in the God and in the Bible but you cannot say that because these priests are deviant, that all Christians are. My church doesn't allow its pastors to be alone with the female members of the church. If kids are being attended to, it's always a group of youth pastors.. there isn't this sketchy one on one thing that you're seeing with the Catholics. I am not bashing the Catholics, either. But the priests should absolutely be allowed to marry. God created marriage with the purpose of allowing men and women to come together as one etc etc.. The higher ups in the Catholic church are wrong to deny their clergy this.

Maybe the church needs some outside regulatory committees to compete.

Religion is not a problem without the monopoly on violence the government has.
