@sanibelsnook : is there a high speed train between Tampa and Orlando? no? so whats your point?at a constant speed of 150MPH/180MPH+ there is no way a car can be faster at any great distance., even including car rental time (if you need it of course, subways or trams might be a usable alternatives cities that have them.)
Have you ever ridden on a train? Have you ever ridden on a train? Gimme a train any day of the week for anything longer than a few hours. I've been stuck on the ground for 8 hours. I've had flights delayed and delayed and delayed. I've had stuff lost in the checking system. My brother's had stuff stolen from him by the baggage people/TSA. I've had to sit on cramped planes for hours on end in the air. You ever try taking a taking a piss in an airplane bathroom? Oh woops! We just hit some turbulence, now it's everywhere. And you don't want to sit on the seat, cuz chances are somebody pissed on it. Oh, and the waits/layovers in terminals? I'm sick of those too. You think trains are cramped- try a plane!Give me TGV or give me death!
About time. America deserves a 21st century transportation system like the rest of the world. High speed rail will reduce our dependence on foreign oil, reduce carbon emissions, and improve mobility. If Korea, China, Japan, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, England, and soon Brazil, India, Vietnam, Argentina, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and others already have it why can't we?
Cause private enterprise can't invest in infrastructure. The government has to build it and then let private enterprise run the operations. The US is too busy blowing up infrastructure in the Middle East and paying its military industrial contractors to rebuild it.

Ok, it will. But when I wanna go to one of the places this train goes, guess who can't afford it.

Instead of 0 to 60mph we should start measuring in "zero to Vegas!"
