blogs.sun.com — Sun has assigned 2 developers to assist in porting OpenOffice for Mac to aqua. (Currently the X11 windowing system needs to be installed). More developers will be available to assist as required.Sun cites the rising market share of the Mac and its commitment to cross-platform compatibility as reasons for the decision. Way to go Sun!

My sister works for Sun. When StorageTek was acquired by Sun, they were migrated off Microsoft Office. el oh el.

Office 08? Not out yet, cost money and they dropped VBA excel macro support making it useless for people that use macros and need interoperability with windows excel users.

As a side note:<a class="user" href="http://www.ohloh.net/projects/4043/analyses/latest">http://www.ohloh.net/projects/4043/analyses/latest</a>93 percent of Neooffice code is native. Only 4 percent is java.

I've found that the latest version of NeoOffice is quiet nice actually. It might not be perfect but it seems to run much faster on my Core Duo macbook than Word does under rosetta, and launches much faster as well. I have started using it almost exclusively without problems. I'm wondering if the people slamming it are using an older version, which when I first tried it a while back, was an unstable pig of an app.

Apple should really have a few guys working on the OpenOffice project. The day will come when Microsoft decides OSX is too much of a threat and drops support. iWork is a nice package but honestly it's just not going to appeal to a lot of people who are looking for a 1:1 Office clone replacement.

LOL, agree calvarez. i really dont understand what the backlash is all about. The latest version (2.1) has a much-improved interface with somewhat nifty buttons. it's better than OOo on X11, and it's free. not complaining.
