arstechnica.com — The reviews are in, and the Eee PC seems to represent not only a home run for Asus, but the birth of a new product category?one that doesn't include Microsoft. Welcome to the mobile future, where Windows and optical drives are gone in a flash.

If people want to use Microsoft software, they should pay for it. The same applies to all commercial software. If you want a freebie, there are plenty of alternatives. Piracy actually helps Microsoft, Adobe, and the like to stay in the top seat.

Carly, you're the one spreading misinformation. schest seems to be referring to the threats Microsoft has used against some Linux vendors, including Xandros, that Linux infringes on some Micrsosoft patents. This is widely believed to be a bulls**t claim, because Microsoft refuses to show the patents. It is also a moot point because the open source nature of Linux would allow its developers to replace any code that was found to infringe upon one of Microsoft's patents. So Xandros was just cowed into paying royalties to Microsoft in order to avoid a possible lawsuit. It's not that Linux doesn't respect intellectual property, but that Microsoft's alleged intellectual property is BS.

I have Ubuntu on my desktop and it loads incredibly fast. Keep in mind I have a amd x2 3800+ processor but It loads really fast for me. Faster than some Vista installs I've seen on faster processors.

After taking my own advice and googling Tiny XP, I've found that it doesn't in fact work on "battery-powered computing devices." I recommend, however, doing what the Tiny XP team did to a regular Window XP install and using a tool called LiteXP, which assists in stripping out features you might not use. Just don't, you know, strip out power management. ;)
