cnn.com — Switching from a Windows-operated computer to a Linux-operated one could slash computer-generated e-waste levels by 50%. Microsoft not available for comment, too busy killing baby seals. You like baby seals don't you?

Some truth in it, some not-so-truthful.I've been using computers for some years now (20 or so..), and I have some issues with the article, while on the other hand agreeing with it.I bought myself an HP Omnibook 6100 back in 2001 (or 2002, can't really remember anymore). It's still running smoothly with the latest Ubuntu. I can do almost anything with the good old box. Only shaky thing about it is that the hinges for the display is getting worn out.I also have a Dell Lattitude 6100 that's now three years old. I really can't say that I've noticed it getting slow or not being a top-notch machine anymore. It's just as fast as ever. It's also running the latest Ubuntu. It actually has gotten a tad faster with newer versions. I like that. Now I just got a Dell Lattitude D830 a month or so ago. I didn't notice any performance increase. That's probably due to me deciding to encrypt the entire harddrive including the swap partitions, though. Of course that should take its performance toll. Haven't noticed it much though.I do, however, not foresee that the Omnibook that is now getting into its seventh year living that much longer though. Due to the hardware itself starting to get shaky. Can't blame the OS for that though. A laptop of course is put through a lot of wear and tear. That one has had a couple of mountain tours, been sent in my backpack on airplanes quite a few times, and so forth. It's been used. Extensively. In many climates. However, I notice that my windows using friends complain about their computers growing slower and slower. And that they have to reinstall every so often. I have no clue what is, except maybe the OS is a tad shabby. Maybe.

Wouldn't "e-waste" be electronic waste? I know they meant waste of electronic components but when you think of e-mail vs. mail it made me think more of waste of data transfer/storage. The same might still be true but slapping the "e-" prefix on something is annoyingly overused for anything regarding computers or electronics.http://www.paramegsoft.com/forum/http://www.directory.paramegsoft.com/ http://game.paramegsoft.com/
