irishtimes.com— A WIKIPEDIA hoax by a 22-year-old Dublin student resulted in a fake quote being published in newspaper obituaries around the world.

you can't cite wikepedia as a source, at least not in college-or any form of journalism.but almost all the information on wikipedia is sourced, so just go to those pages double check and then source that.yeah, that sounds a like something a dumbass would do.i always go to libraries cause the internet isn't even real.
Goldenrhino- If you had been a Journalism student you would see that journalists are not always the ones to trust for facts. It's not stupid to bash the old media, especially since so much of what is printed or broadcast is false information. Within 20 years I went from loving newspapers and collecting them (my oldest is over 100 years old) to cancelling my subscriptions and avoiding newspapers whenever possible. I don't trust the new media any more than the old, but false information comes in all shapes and sizes from newspapers to newscasts to high school textbooks.
Considering a lot of users know that information that's on Wikipedia can be submitted by basically just about anyone, its very questionable why journalists are using it as a source/passing it off as their own!

As dumb as it was to not verify the source, it wasn't a bad quote.

Buried for Star Wars (i.e. being infinitely lame).

It was an interestin story but shows the power of print to be believable unless its verified.
