Well, the assumption that just because something is a port means that it is "cheap" or poorly written is bad from the start. Badly written apps are just that, they can be either native or ports, it doesn't matter, what matters is the time the developer is willing to put in.Also, this covers more than just ports, it also covers developer written toolkits or alternative development environments. It's not obvious why this is important right away, but keep in mind that the iPhone SDK not only requires a Mac to use, but it also requires the most recent OS version. These are completely arbitrary restrictions. There's no reason that you can't develop iPhone apps on *any* computer, as long as it can run a compiler/IDE.These rules prevent someone from creating a iPhone compiler for Window (and Linux). Yet again, the entire 'quality control' argument is meaningless here. Why would apps written on Windows automatically be of less quality?

Thanks for coming back down to earth. :) +1Honestly, I have faith in the free market to decide Apple's fate. If Apple has done something to injure itself, then it should suffer self inflicted damage. If it turns out this was a good move for Apple, then it should deserve whatever reward it gets for doing so.Change is always painful in the short term, but perhaps this is the straw that breaks the Apple's back, and a new movement is started to challenge Apple's future. I really don't care how things going, since I use Apple, Microsoft, Google, and Linux, equally, and daily. My eggs are in various baskets so to speak, so I am not fully invested in any one company's outcome.There must be some reason people choose to dev for the iPhone. If that reason goes away, then shame on Apple.I have seen a lot of change like this throughout the years. The only difference is, the general public suddenly cares about developer's TOS issues, ignored standards, and other technical bugaboos most don't have the background to grasp.I'm sorry if this hurts your business, but now is the chance for you to rise to the top above your competitors! :)

I love foxit pdf. It is so goddamn lightweight... As for Apple's strategy, you might be right, it may not translate to making a photoshop challenger, but then you never know.

Going from 5% to over 10% of a market the size of the smartphone industry is fairly significant. Trying to downplay that is just silly...Especially considering that they doubled their market share in the 4th quarter of last year as well. Going from 2.5% to over 10% in half a year, without loss of momentum, is actually a big thing.

While the former is doable (though hurts bottom line), the later is much harder. The problem is all the non-developers will still buy apple stuff, as it makes no difference to them. This is a very *evil* situation. No better word to describe what Apple is doing.
