defectivebydesign.org — Join citizens from all over the world by stepping up to stop this actbefore it becomes law. The American DMCA has already imprisoned aRussian software developer for developing a tool to help you make useof ebooks you'd legitimately purchased. At a time when consumers aremoving away from DRM media, do we really need another unjust law?

Book some time with him anyway, and let let him knowi) The so called consumer rights it leaves are trumped by the "digital locks" provision and are largely an illusionii) It is not fair if you can't I watch lawfully purchased DVDs with foreign region codes.iii) It is not fair if you can't I unlock my lawfully purchased cellphone or modify hardware you own, regardless what locks the manufacturer put on it.iv) It is not fair that they consulted with US lobbyists when drafting this bill, but held no public consultations with canadian votersv) This bill takes away rights we have had for yearsvi) They are a minority governmentvii) The upcoming ACTA agreement will be signed with even less public input, and takes away even more of your rights.viii) Let them know will switch your vote to green or NDP next time over this issue, (I for one would rather live with the terms of the Kyoto agreement than the ACTA agreement )If enough of you call your MPs office and ask for face time this summer, they are at least going to worry about their job if they support this turd, especially if they are not in a safe riding. If your MP is a liberal or other, tell them that if Dion grows a pair and votes it down even if Harper makes it a confidence motion, you will support them next election. Don't hold out too much hope for the liberals though - they introduced C-60 just before they fell last election which was nearly as bad. Expect a wishy-washy non-commital answer from them, but be pin them down - let them know that your future support depends on them voting this down, take it or leave it. The greens and NDP are the only parties I know of solidly on the correct side of this issue as per their party platform. We may have to put up with them for a term to put the "fear of god" into the major parties on this, and let them know not to take us for granted. I am not sure about the Bloc...

In Canada the anti-Americanism angle is likely to get more people to agree with you.

What the h*** does Canada do up there? All that comes to mind is some robotic arm used on the American space shuttle. Anything else you guys are doing to contribute to the advancement of humanity? Toasters maybe? Lightbulbs?

I just think it would be a more worthwhile use of time to email a letter to the editor of the local newspaper than to email a Conservative MP. If you want to schedule an appointment with one go nuts.

Hmmmm, maybe I should better explain what I mean by anti-americanism. I mean spreading nonsense about Americans just to make people angry at Americans as a whole. As opposed to people making logical criticisms of the American government. I realise people in Canada are critical of the American government at the moment because it is so messed up. I don't consider that anti-americanism. If you do, I guess you are just too patriotic to understand.

It's going to be good for Canada? How do you figure? You an industry rep or something?

Big Media? One example of these "facts":CanWest, a "big media" company, owns and controls the content for: the Vancouver Sun, the Province, the National Post, Global TV, the Vancouver Courier, the North Shore News, and the Now community newspaper chain. So forget about getting your views out there, unless they're CanWest's views. Who owns CanWest? A Canadian Firm? I'd be surprised to find out that it's not an American Company.

Yeah, but if you're a social-law breaker, like many big media corporations are, than you can do nothing better for yourself than to get everyone else out there breaking the law, because then they can't say a damn thing about what you're doing. That's how abusers work, by making the abused believe it was somehow their fault, or that they had a hand in it, or are no different then the abuser. So it's not a matter of being able to pirate something, it's a matter of corporations setting things up so that you'll willingly break the law, thereby giving up your legal right.

it should be considered the civic duty of every canadian citizen to contact their mp and urge them to fight this ridiculous bill.
