macobserver.com — Al Alcorn, co-founder of Atari with Nolan Bushnell, recently spoke with PodTech.net about the early days of the company, including Apple co-founder Steve Jobs' time there. Mr. Jobs was an 18-year-old college dropout at the time and Mr. Alcorn hired him despite his lack of a technical education.

I won't point out the dupe, but the original post (including the actual podcast) is here:http://www.podtech.net/?p=881It's part of a series of podcasts from California Extreme Classic Arcade Game Show in San Jose. It's held every year and it's really a fun event. There are several podcasts from PodTech.net from people who created such games as Robotron, PONG and other classics. http://www.podtech.net/?cat=51Some of the podcasts include music from a guy who performs classic arcade game theme songs on 12 string guitar. It was pretty amazing hearing him take requests and then playing them on demand.I've been going to this event for a few years now. I highly recommend it. It's one of those events that are done by people with passion. More information about the event can be found here:http://www.caextreme.org

And now he's pushing DRM. Oh how times change.."In the autumn of 1974, Jobs returned to California and began attending meetings of the Homebrew Computer Club with Steve Wozniak.[10] He took a job as a technician at Atari, a manufacturer of popular video games, with the primary intent of saving money for a spiritual retreat to India. During this time, it was discovered that a slightly modified toy whistle included in every box of Cap'n Crunch breakfast cereal was able to reproduce the 2600 Hz supervision tone used by the AT&T long distance telephone system. Jobs and Wozniak went into business briefly in 1974 to build "blue boxes" that allowed free long distance calls."

FYI Bill Gates was son of a millonaire and went to Lake Side, one of the most prestigious high schools in the Greater Seattle Area. I hate to break it to you but he didn't work at McDonalds, he was a rich kid. So in other words despite popular belief, Gates really didn't live the american dream. When your dad helps pay the venture capital to start up Microsoft then it makes life pretty easy when you can just buy your first product from someone else.
