sports.espn.go.com— NBA commissioner David Stern, in a stunning reversal, has decided to shelve the new microfiber composite basketball after just a few months of use.

well my guess is that they were thinking about one of the $ponsor$, $palding, the official $upplier of basketball$ to the A$$ociation.(though if you believe the conspiracy theorists, it was the card carrying PETAnista wife of Rockets owner Leslie Alexander, who is best friends with wife of said Mr. Stern, who got the ball changed to a non-cow based substance)
Now if only the NBA would reduce the number of timeouts and give players three free throws for fouls committed inside of the last two minutes, I would start watching again!
OK so your plan to speed up the game is to reduce timeouts and increase free throws....just to let you know all of those extra shots will take more time than a timeout. Now if its less commercial timeouts then I'm all for it.
@forty4The point would be to disincentivize teams from committing fouls near the end of the game, thus speeding up the game. There are few things less enjoyable than watching a great, fast-paced game full of talented players come to a grinding halt in the last two minutes because the losing team continues to foul. Or, even more perversely, when a team up by three points fouls the losing team in the closing seconds because they would rather give up two free throws than a possible three point shot. Sure, it's not against the rules. My point is, it should be.
The best improvement in the NBA is this year is the consistent calling of the traveling violation. The worst area that needs much improvement is the inconsistent calling of "Charges" and "Blocking" fouls. I hate seeing a player run full speed at the basket and get called for charging when a player decides to plant himself right in front of that player.
I think Nets fans would be some of the most reluctant to bring the old ball back since they sucked with it then, so I don't think that can help them now.
the experiment has failed. as for travellings - it's time. Because in international championships nba player get too many whistles for travelling violation (i don't know whose fault it is. I suspect referees just can't follow the quickness of nba players' moves)
