afp.google.com — It was the kind of breakthrough scientists had dreamed of for decades and its promise to help cure disease appears to be fast on the way to being realized. "This is truly the Holy Grail: To be able to take a few cells from a patient -- say a cheek swab or few skin cells -- and turn them into stem cells in the laboratory"

True that - I agree fully. However let's remember that this is a huge step in the correct direction.

I think that's a bit of a stretch from what I said. Obviously neither of those are desirable solutions. I'm just saying you can't deny that we've tipped the normal ecological balance by extending our lives and decreasing risk of death due to predation; and if we keep going in that direction there could be problems. China's one-child policy was an attempt to keep population growth in-check. I don't know too much about it, it's successes or its failings; it's just an example to show you that the problem is real enough to be addressed on a national level.

It must be hard to be the only person in the first world who has known True Suffering. You are absolutely correct that our system needs reform. That has nothing to do with stem cell breakthroughs. This is still a remarkable achievement that will change a lot of lives. I hope that you do vote conscientiously and put your support behind a candidate that will nationalize our health care system. We will be the last generation to have the kind of ridiculous abuse by health insurance companies that you detailed.

I think we can all agree that stem cell research is important. It is the lengths that some people are willing to go to that is very alarming. That is why there HAS to be regulations and rules as to how research is done. Woman have been PAID to get pregnant, carry the baby to full term, go into labor and give "partial birth". At the point before the baby takes its first breath-it is killed and used for research. There are many babies that have been born with severe problems and were not expected to live and no extra measures were taken to save the life so that the baby can die and be used in research. There are many adults and elderly people that have been abandoned and left to die so that they could be used for research. If you think these things are too horrific to be true-you are sadly mistaken. It has happened and continues to happen behind closed doors. Doctors, scientists, researches, nurses, people:money and status are powerful things and some people will do anything for it.

George Bush does not like murder. That is why he did not fund SOME types of stem cell research. You need to get your facts straight.

I really hope the "f-ing" babies in heaven that have been murdered will forgive you for that one.
