newscientist.com— Eye-opening stimulant Provigil is today's wake-up drug of choice, but the experimental compound CX717 may help the bleary stay awake, and productive, for days -- yes, DAYS -- on end.

We need REM Sleep. If we go too long without it, it can have detrimental effects on our bodies. I dont know too much about it, but I guess a few days without sleep here and there are ok, but hardly without side effects. I drink a black dunkins large every morning, mostly due to habit. Imagine if something like this became "habit," taking it every time you get tired. All this said, sounds like its worth checking out, but like with any substance it needs to be used in strict moderation.
I'd like to thank Naikrovek for his first hand experience and remind everyone that random musing on the effects of said drug do not a good comment make. At least look for a wiki article or something to add to the conversation.
" “Stimulating your brain with a reminder on a handheld digital device doesn’t seem that different to me from stimulating your brain with a drug,” he says."Exactly. One is a drug that changes the chemistry of your brain, and the other one is a reminder. Same thing... Wait, no, they're completely different.
Our identities consist of a big bag of "drugs" when you get right down to it. That bag being our brain. A few things get tweaked (like with a mental illness) and you're not even you anymore.I know this has nothing to do with this miracle pep pill.I think the Spanish have it right. Everyone take a siesta after lunch. Screw all this hyper productivity.
This might be an old article on digg, but it has changed my life. I have obstructive sleep apnea and use a cpap with 2 liters of O2 when I sleep and Myasthenia Gravis http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/myasthenia_grav ... I saw this article on digg and just happen to have an appointment with my neurologist the next day at the VA in Tampa and told him about Provigal and along with the other meds I take for the MG he said it might be a good thing to try. I had my first dose a low one at 100mg per day this morning. I felt good and awake today for the first time in a few years now. I woke up at 6:30am and it's now 10:37pm est and now am tired and getting ready for bed. I got more done today than I have in a very very long time and I felt almost normal as far as I can remember what normal for me was back in the day. I can't tell you how good it felt to feel almost normal and be able to do things and accomplish something and not fall asleep in the middle of it or run out of steam in the middle because of the MG. Because I just happen to see this article on digg. It might be an old post but it is a life changing post for me and I thank the person who posted it and I thank digg for being here. Hay Kevin your little site changed my life, thanks Ken
