networkworld.com — Washington state is suing a search engine optimization and Web services outfit that has done business under the names Visible.net, Captures.com and WebMarketingSource.com. In essence, the state says these entities have ripped off thousands of dollars from mostly mom-and-pop sites through unfulfilled performance promises and financial shenanigans.

Are you suggesting that companies wanting to provide information and a home on the web for customers on the internet, don't have a place on the internet? If you think that's true, I have a boat to sell you.Whether you like it or not, Advertising and Marketing drives a capitalist society. Deal with it.

*CLAPS* There are so many rip off SEO's around that give good quality SEO's a bad name... Just glad somebody is actually doing something about it for once!

Heh, no they really are. I am currently fighting off one for my client ( a casino ) that want's $20k a MONTH for SEO and they can't even explain what they would be doing for that amount of money. It's a buzzword scam.

Just all the ones that have called me telling me my site is no good and they can get me to the top of the search engines. They don't even know what keywords I am targeting, because if they would bother to check I am already on the first page for the keywords I care about.

It's true SEO is most of about link building and content. Getting a ton of quality links is a real, full-time job though and a specialty. And other things also important in seo.http://www.spiderlogics.com/

It's really a shame about all the people who were victims of this company. I am glad they are being called out like this. Hopefully it will make way for reputable companies. SEO gets a bad rap from all the so-called firms out there that make empty "guarantees" and never deliver results. It's usually the Mom & Pops that are taken advantage of because they don't know the ins & outs of SEO.
