gateworld.net — The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Those are some terrible analogies. ST:TOS got three seasons before cancellation, Babylon 5 barely had 4, Farscape had 4, and Firefly didn't even get all 14 episodes SHOT. 10 seasons of SG1 is eight seasons too many if you were waiting for it to hit its stride.

Well this makes me sad, I hope another network will pick it up or they'll start a suitable replacement stargate series.

Seriously, ECW on Sci-Fi?! Wrestling is not even remotely Sci-Fi. I also don't like how Sci-Fi is the infomercial channel early in the mornings (especially on the weekends).Man I miss MST3K. I get excited when the Sci-Fi channel shows an actual big-screen movie on a Saturday instead of their made-for-TV crapfests which is always a group of people with machine guns in the woods.

That's the problem, they can't track TV RIps because TV rips don't matter to advertisers because the commercials are cut. Ultimatley it is the advertisers that have the final say, and if the show isn't pulling enough ratings to attract advertisers then they are pulled. Why Farscape was canceled? Because it cost more money than was being generated by advertisers because it had to compete Friday nights with other overly hyped but ultimatley sucky shows airing on other stations. It's not about how much the show it's enjoyed, it's about how much the show generates marketing revenue. You could never win with that argument, because they see you as a non profit entity, you want the goods but aren't willing to pay for the goods. You pay for TV shows by watching commercials, that's how it's always been. They could care less if you love it, they only want to know if you are tuning in to watch it at that time slot, so they can pass a 30 second advert in front of your eyes.

I never really got into SG-1, Star Gate Atlantis is a lot better imo.

That's what they said about farscape. Granted, I never got into farscape, but SG-1 is one of the best shows on TV right now and has at least one more season in it still.

You missed an amazing thing.

I agree. This is going to be the Second Time Ben Browder has been shafted by Sci-Fi. Come on Farscape was awesome and the 200 episode of SG1 was great especially with the bit on Farscape.

"Yeah, the Wraith are much lamer than the Ori or Goa'uld. So far, the only real explanation for their badness has been, "Well, erm, there's quite a lot of them. Too many to fight. Just lots and lots of these guys." Whereas every other enemy in the franchise has had some sort of advantage in smarts, technology, or culture."For some odd reason I could hear McKay while reading that.

maybe... maybe... they are following the firefly example and its time to move SG-1 to the big screen.

It's about time. This show has been run into the ground by boring and predictable writing
