cdfreaks.com — cdfreaks.com has reported that Futuremark have uncoverd that Starforce "...installs a driver that runs at the highest level of access on the system? This driver runs regardless of whether the game runs;... If something suspicious is detected, it forces the PC to make an immediate reboot..." Read cdfreaks.com for more information.

Agreed, I stopped playing PC games about 4 years ago. Getting older I dont have the time to fiddle around with settings on my PC or to run out and buy the latest hardware so that I can play a game enjoyably. Further I have to use my computer to work and the last thing I want is some DRM software causing my main system to randomly shut down because I am trying to make a copy of software I have written for a client. When I do play games these days its on my PS2 (I dont even care to stay up with the latest goodies). Or the couple small PC games I have like chuzzle or some NES emulator.

Here's my prediction. Very soon, this will cause someone to lose a buttload of important work. They will sue Starforce out of existence.

It's a nice thought, but when you agree to the EULA, there's a phrase where you release the company from any damages that their software may cause. It's actually in 90%+ of the EULAs I've actually read... basically "If you install this software, you agree not to hold ABC liable for any damages resulting from the installation / running of this software"Not to mention SF is backed by several gaming companies and part of the industry which I'm sure would back them up since SF is the "perfect" anti-piracy solution (hell if anything SF is going to cause a RISE in piracy)...SB

This is where I wish Microsoft would release a security patch that prevents Starforce drivers from ever installing. It would break games that use Starforce, but who cares. Starforce would be out of business!

No digg. Disclaimer at end of article says: "Update: According to a news post by Futuremark, apparently they have not carried out any research or uncovered anything relating to StarForce, however this discovery was made by users who posted about this on their public discussion boards."Read the last sentence. It basically repudiates the assertion at the crux of the article, and casts serious doubt on the one made by the title itself. No diggs on second-hand rumors.

Er... both Computer Gaming World and PC Gamer did their own tests and found it screwed their systems

DRM stands for "Digital Rectal Manipulation" and we don't even like that done by a Proctologist! Well unless your of the "Gay" persuasion! When will they learn that Crimes against your customers don't pay. When will these stuck in a boardroom w/thumbs up their arss Publishers ever learn? They spend more of our money attempting to greedily put more in theirs and in the end just lose us as customers.Every industry has waste or profit loss percentages to deal with that are just accepted in other bussinesses such as restaurants, grocery stores, etc! They just recoop it in price increases. The "Movie, Music, and Gaming" industries are the only ones that try to stick it up our arsses twice, by not only raising the price, but DRMing (remember meaning) us to Death! Break our equipment! Waste our Time! Spy on US! And even worse give us incurable aids like control infections! So I say F**k em and Boycott their arses out of business! ;D
