news.yahoo.com — SEATTLE - Got three bucks? That and a nickel will buy you a coffee drink at Starbucks. Starbucks Corp. said Thursday that it planned to raise prices of its lattes, cappuccinos, drip coffee and other drinks by 5 cents, or an average of 1.9 percent. The increase goes into effect Oct. 3 at all company-operated stores in the U.S. and Canada.

Yep. If I didn't have access to a Timmys I might go to starbucks once in a while, most days I just wouldn't get anything, its just too pricey for a daily cost. Fortunately there are Tim Hortons everywhere here, and its both cheap and good.

"I do not understand how starbucks is just for the rich and famous when other coffee/donut shops cost just as much."you're right, Starbucks and coffee/donut shops are the only way on earth that can get you coffee. or maybe those people are referring to brewing a cup of coffee at home for 10 cents?

Does this mean the tip jars will go away? (Seriously, a tip for making my $5 coffee?)

Appauling... as if they need to make more profit.

I'm from the midwest, while we have a (1) starbucks here, I thought it was overhyped, good but overhyped. I thought they only drank starbucks in the movies. Is Starbucks really that big? Glad to know you brew your own

Not meaning to sound rude but it is kinda yuppy-ish to pay $4-5 for a cup of coffee? Folgers, Sanka=7.99 a can. I also read slow brewed coffee actually has more caffeine in it than espresso, because uh...it was slow brewed.

Stop complaining. A cup of regular old Starbucks coffee still costs the same as at any other place, be it your locally run shoppe or Dunkin Donuts. I often feel like the same people who bash Starbucks becuase of their "trendyness" do so because they need to get their "trendy" jumbo-decaf-non-fat-latte-with-cinnamon. If it seems I'm a bit bitter it's because I've been working at a local coffee shop and have come to be really annoyed at the people who complain over the expensive drinks without even knowing what it takes to make them or even what they're drinking. So what I'm really trying to say here is get whatever you want to drink and support any coffeeshop you choose. If you're really outraged and this will be a change in your lifestyle write whomever controls the Starbucks Corp...Just, for god sake, don't complain to the barista about the 5 cent change, she can't do anything about it, and although she's smiling so you tip her, she'll be spending her break bitching about yuppies like you.

Great news, as far as I am concerned. Now I will save even MORE money by not drinking their products.Support your LOCAL coffee roaster.

Although I buy their 1 lb bags of coffee, I do not buy their coffee drinks. It's just too dang expensive. For those of you who like your morning coffee, check out a Tassimo machine. I bought one for my wife last March and she LOVES IT!JLPhttp://AllFinancialMatters.com

I have to give Starbucks credit for their Mocha powder/syrup. Too many coffee shops use that Ghirardelli chocolate syrup that just doesn't taste as cool as it sounds.Otherwise Caribou makes good drinks and I find them less crowded than Starbucks.

$4-5? That's not yuppy-ish, that's just stupid expensive. Starbucks is generally only $3 and change for the most convoluted weird thing they have on the menu. A double shot of espresso is only like $2 at some locations, and less than $1 at others.

Isn't the increase just gonna come primarily out of tips? I usually just throw my change in the tip jar, so unless this increase pushes my total over the next even dollar (e.g., $4.05), I'm just gonna end up leaving 5 cents less in tips. Seems like a sneaky way by corporate to effectively cut wages.

I love and hate starbucks-the drip coffee is usually really lousy-but the environment is relaxing-the prices really suck-but they suck at almost all coffee places- I do like Chai Tea at starbucks-but even that is a tricky thing b/c it just depends on the mood of the person who is making it if it is really good or complete crap- just my .02
