You can't cover the shaft. It's a venting shaft and if you cover it, your Death Star will overheat. There's an induction coil that will shut down the core if that happens, but you'll be a sitting duck.
I think the point is, why should the little guy bother publishing his own articles when the big guys just take it for their own, slap a referral at the bottom and this is what everyone sees, rather than the original?
