And/Or some of the great ideas that CoH showcased as well...seems unlikely though. It's Blizzard, they'll focus on basic gameplay, polished to look better than it really is and since they cater to the PC crowd with the lowest common denominator as far as system requirements, it'll sell anyway. Just look at C&C 3, by all intelligent accounts it's pretty average (graphics-wise and gameplay) yet it's selling fairly well because of the name and pedigree, even though that pedigree has LONG since ceased to impress. Le sigh.Perhaps Blizzard will surprise us for once and push the boundaries of PC gaming with any StarCraft sequel, but again, it seems very unlikely.
@wyte while I do agree with you about how modern RTS blow the old SC away, I still think it's a brand we need to see again, it's a game that needs a sequel
u know... when I first started playing SC, it was on a 166 MHz computer with a 16MB graphics card. I had to stop playing that game cause it got too addictive. My highSchool/uni grades would have improved a lot if I didn't play that game. That said I can't wait for SC2. But they have to do better than 1 new race and 2 more units per race, cause right now it just seems like an expansion pack. I thought I would see an Xel'Naga race or something like that. I think they should make a movie out of it.. that would be really cool....
Fair enough. It's not like Blizzard don't have the resources to do the genre justice. I would hope that they wouldn't start up development on a future SC without doing some serious research first, so that they can craft (pun intended) an amazing game and not just something derivative of their earlier games with little to no innovation (aka the Command & Conquer 3 syndrome).
I was in the Sup Com beta ... I played it for like 5 days until I couldn't take it anymore. The game play was just plain terrible. Had no nuance or strategy at all ... it was all build order and throw as many units as you could in as many different places at once and hope your opponent couldn't do it faster than you. No finesse at all ... yawn.
Ok now to listen to someone who is smart. First of all i'd like to give props to elnerdo about saying blizzard only releases good games. He's right, if you think about it all the games blizzard comes up with are bestsellars. Now all those assh**es that are saying 1 new race and 2 new units isn't a new games are retards. If you know anything about SC you should know that the reason it is so popular is beacause it is so balanced. Sure it seems insignificant but when you play a whole new race will be extreme plus new units for each race is hard to do since each race is so differant and balanced. Now as for taking the server off for SC i agree that will never happen. Now! for the big retards. Those who are saying that SC2 is pointless because of WoW beacuse of profits i am gonna have to disagree. Even though it kinda makes sense you gotta think about the progamers in korea and how they are geting sponsored. Some of the sponsorship money goes to blizzard and that makes them big money aswell. And last but not least Blizzards reputaion is on the line. If all they can come up with are (what i think) s**tty MMO's in these couple of years and some s**t ass WC games then they are sad game producers. Now take what I have in consideration plz cause as c**ky as this sounds i know what i am talking about :D
"Adun = Ancient Protoss HeroEn Taro Adun was a normal salutation that was used to Honor His death. He was widely regarded as almost a god."En Taro BoxerGuess I just wanted to believe that it would finally come out. While it is true that WoW would make more money this shouldn't be the only reason to make games. We should guilt trip the President of Blizzard into making a good game rather than a profitable one using some sort of sappy chain email about following dreams.
Personally, now more than ever, I think this is a real, if not in whole, story. I doubt very strongly they will shut down the old Starcraft servers... that is just insanity. However, look at the splash page on the Blizzard.com home. Just enough events on the time line at the bottom to take us to Saturday, the predicted announcement day. Moreover, look at the background to the Diablo cover art and Deckard Cain quote... Notice something? Doesn't that look strangely like Zerg spines... perhaps even Kerrigan's? Maybe... Maybe not...
