portfolio.com— In the big, bad game of rock and roll, “Stairway to Heaven” is undeniably a winner. VALUE OF "STAIRWAY" EARNINGS: $562 millionVALUE OF POTENTIAL LICENSING DEALS: $10 million and up

Nope, Zeppelin sold around 400 millions records and The Beatles 750 millions. Talent has nothing to do with sales, the proof is that Celine Dion outsold Zeppelin with 475 millions albums and even Bing Crosby have sold more than 500 millions. Beatles are number 1, follow by Elvis and Sinatra, both have 700 millions sales.
Isn't it wonderful! They came across the pond with all the hopes and dreams of becoming a successful rock band, and in true American fashion, they did it by stealing, "borrowing" and good ol' greed. Thanks to Taurus, Robert Johnson, Howlin' Wolf, Memphis Minnie and so many others (just check it out: http://www.amazon.com/Zeppelins-Sources-Inspiratio ... they built an amazingly successful career with songs that never credited their original writers or "inspirations", including Stairway to Heaven.Gotta love Capitalism!
I was really just kidding, but I do remember a long time ago this Christian lady tried to convince me of the evils of rock and roll (and failed) and showed me this video where they were playing all these songs backwards. There was a bunch of supposedly backwards messages in Stairway. I remember it sounds like he says "666 Satan" or something like that at some point. I thought it was hilarious. If you listen to anything backwards enough, you're bound to hear all kinds of things that might sound like something. It's not totally unbelievable though, Page was always pretty open about his interest in the Occult. The funniest one out of all of the backwards messages was actually Aerosmith's Walk This Way, when you play the chorus backwards it sounds like he says "Hail Satan!" LOL... and Queen's Another One Bites the Dust chorus sounds like he says "It's fun to smoke marijuana!"
GamerGeorge, I salute you for that. Presence is a very underrated album and Achilles Last Stand is the prime masterpiece. Check out the live version on the latest live DVD - brilliant!
Oh certainly not...how could I be when working in law enforcement ;)I just love seeing credit given where credit is due, and completely applaud the long going lawsuit the estate of Robert Johnson had over this exact matter. I don't enjoy hearing someone profit so hugely over someone's BLATANT lack of creativity. There's a huge difference in being inspired and just copying...hence why the radio nowadays is sickening.Led Zeppelin is one of my all time favorite bands, and it crushed me when I read about their history and heard this cd! However, I totally agree with GhostRidr...my favorite songs of theirs just so happen to be their originals. The Rover, Night Flight, Ten Years Gone, The Ocean, In My Time of Dying, Since I've Been Lovin' You...the list goes on. Sure, they all have little notes of "inspiration" in them, but it was the Led Zeppelin touch that made the song historic.
Well, seeing as they shouldn't even get all the credit for a number of their songs I don't think they should even consider licensing the songs they didn't even create.(I love Led Zeppelin, but to all the potential diggers who take offense, face the truth!)
