nytimes.com — A stark assessment of terrorism trends by American intelligence agencies has found that the American invasion and occupation of Iraq has helped spawn a new generation of Islamic radicalism and that the overall terrorist threat has grown since the Sept. 11 attacks.

Well DUH.And I'd like to take this opportunity to remind ya'll that Bush and his cronies LIED to the Americans and to the world about the purpose of the war. WMDs? Yeahright. Not a single one was found. And it's not like this was unknown before the invasion. I still vividly recall how Colin Powell made a fool of himself with his horrible powerpoint presentation in front of the UN.Really, why the Americans have not locked up Bush for the Iraq war lies is completely beyond me.Go ahead, mod me down, but I stand by my opinion that Bush is a criminal.

Kosovo. And how exactly was Korea a loss? You do realize that South Korea is not controlled by communists specifically because we didn't lose that war ...

I wanna see you guys in 10 years. When all those little iraqi and afghan kids turn into adults and try to find a way to express their frustration for getting their childhood lives and country turned into s**t.

Everybody knew this; expect for G. Bush and his poodle Tony Blair.

@danieleran"That's money that could be building American roads, rail and infrastructure, funding education and research, making the US more competitive and better defended from real security problems, and protecting our own interests."Hey now wait just one damn second here! What you're citing above are all those things that embarrassing loser Clinton did! We simply can't have any more of those kind of antics! At least we didn't have to spend 40+ million to prove that Bush got a BJ! Things are much better now!

My only response to that is, what if the same happened to us in America. If someone decides to invade our country just because it is contrary to the rest of the worlds' cultures/norms/beliefs, do you think you would just sit back on your couch and accept the changes that are un-american? No person would just sit back and let some other country dictate its policies and its future, nor would us Americans.

I think Tony knew.. But, as you said, he is on a leash and just hasn't been able to gnaw to break free yet.I do think that someone needs to send Tony a memo stating that the US has clearly used up its stack of IOUs from WW2.

The sensible among us knew this all along, well before the invasion was launched. Now at least the intelligence agencies are validating this -- the speculation of the sane and the sensible from the pre-invasion days -- as the ground reality. Of course, the "spin" machine at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue has gone into overdrive with this latest report to hit the headlines.

@volatilewhimsy....what? they've (Muslims) been poking our hornets nest since 9/11?....since the first WTC bombing?....since Kadafi downed the airliner?...or the Arab oil embargo?.....or the Palestinians threw the guy (no disrespect meant, just don't remember his name) in the wheelchair off the ship?....just to take a few examples......gee, that must be almost 40 years......but its OK for us to remove their duly elected leaders and install our puppets (Iran in the 50s), or to carve out a slice of Muslim land for Israel in the 40s, or to carve up the whole region to our liking around WW1...we've been stirring their hornets nest for almost a hundred years. I don't condone what they've done, but it doesn't surprise me either, after what we've done to them. As for the oil....why can't we just buy it at whatever price we and they can agree upon, instead of trying to control it.....that's the peaceful way.

One question that I don't see people asking is "Where do we find it?"I actually DO want to read this. Has anyone been able to figure out where we can get the report from?

"Do you think the press would hesitate to report their outrage if it existed?"The press doesn't operate to inform the public. It's mostly entertainment. Also realize that the press has invested interests in the government. Big media supports politicians by giving them large sums of money and politicians reimburse them by voting on laws in their favor. It's in the media's interest to support the government, and the governments interest to support the media. If you believe that ANY of the big media news organizations are reporting with real unbiased journalistic principal I think you've got to re-evaluate who your trusting to bring you your information.sarcasm Oh... and I'm envious of the Iraqis! I hope they bomb my house next! endsarcasm
