blogs.westword.com — Two cell salesmen were heading on break when they heard a cry for help from an aging security guard as a shoplifting suspect blazed past them -- and instead of ignoring this plea, they chased the guy down, caught him, and held him until mall security and police arrived. Their reward for this heroic action? They were fired.

Or Sprint could have turned it into an excellent viral moment: Sprint--not fast enough to download your email, but still fast enough to catch a thief

Actually it's called China. It's depressing how the US is heading in that direction more and more.

What the f*ck is going on with Sprint management? Apparently they lacked the foresight to see all the bad PR coming from this. Kind of like when they pushed the then-secret SERO program to the public to boost business, but later realized it was unprofitable. Lack of foresight...

Well, if you think about it, there can be excessive stopping power. If you have a 13 year old brat stealing a candy bar, it wouldn't make sense that clubbing him in the knee just to stop him. And I could imagine some security guards loving to bash someone up after they detained them but that's not legal. The closest encounter I had with a security guard was when I did some back-to-school clothes shopping when I was 13, and before I left the store, I just dumped every purchase into my bookbag. I was in a hurry to meet friends at the arcade, so I walked out, but once in the hallway, I left in a jog plus I'm hard of hearing. So 200 yards out of the store, they grab me by the bag and yank me back 5 feet. Luckily I kept all the receipts. Would I have wanted that 220lb guy to tackle me on his hunch, hell no!Thieves are bad, but that doesn't mean judgement in situations isn't involved, and that judgement can be severely off the mark.

The mall cop had a Sprint phone and couldn't get a signal to call 911? Just a guess. lolzer

Being reported sounds serious. Does that mean you're calling the mall cops on him?

Come on Sprint! I understand legal issues, warn them about it but, firing them is just the most crappy thing you can do. One reason I will consider not ever going with Sprint.-Tom
