spacetelescope.org — Though the galaxy is located 11.6 million light-years away, the Hubble Space Telescope's view is so sharp that it can resolve individual stars, along with open star clusters, globular star clusters, and even glowing regions of fluorescent gas.

0.05-0.1 arc-seconds (Hubble's best) doesn't seem enough to resolve individual stars in M81. Glowing gas, in large nebulae or clusters, yes - but I was talking about that particular picture and every star in it

Where did you get that info? My Sky Chart tells me that M81 is just west of Draco. You can use the end of Draco's tail as a "pointer star", but it can be tough to see even with a modest telescope and optimum light/weather conditions.
