techcrunch.com — Here?s a heck of a rumor that we?ve sourced from two separate people close to the negotiations: Google is in late stage negotiations to acquire Twitter. We don?t know the price but can assume its well, well north of the $250 million valuation that they saw in their recent funding.

Who are you to tell US what deserves the front page and what doesn't? We are the people and we choose twitter to be on our front page.

celerityfm is right - I am certain that the search metrics of twitter has been increasing exponentially as people start to use the API to examine new and better ways to examine the "twittersphere's" reaction to things like brands. Try searching for Syfy if you want to see obvious "rebranding fail" for example.Google's adwords make good sense here - on search results. I think it's a good buy. That being said, the comments on the Google brand here are (in my experience) fairly representative of the overall mistrust of Google's purpose and role. It's as though users of Google services are frustrated and annoyed that they are so damn useful and pervasive. Instead of single-mindledly focusing on acquiring products that reinforce successful cashflow, I wish Google would spend some time trying to connect with average people instead of this admittedly somewhat-scary image of an uber technocracy aligning with the almost magical powers of the internet. I think people are frightened of the internet in general as it becomes more and more advanced and Google is seen as the forerunner in tapping its power, like a shamanistic overlord.
