I really hope this is true. Ive always maintained that having region's is stupid. This is definatly good news. Now they just need to start making DVDS all region free.
This sounds like a way for Sony to say look, people aren't using Mod chips/boot disks to play region encoded games, and we all know about how "legal backups" go... so how about we try and make them have no real legitimate use.(Not to say that some people don't honestly make backups because their kids, dogs, whatever will tear their stuff up)
a step in the right direction. No if they'd only get their act together and release the PS3 worldwise like Microsoft is able to do with the X360.... WTF is up with having to wait 1 whole year before being able to buy it in Europe after the Japanese launch.
If anyone thinks Sony is becoming more pliable with their pitch of Global game support, call their Corporate Office and ask them for help with foreign language games etc...they will tell you "we don't offer game support" Even though Sony has sites in other regions, there is no crosstalk between them... and probably never will be. What's even more ludicrous is the response from the companies that make the games for the other regions. Global support; more like Global abuse...so much for NFTA

I believe this as much as the PS2 is able to render Toy Story graphics in real time with the Emotion Engine.

The lastest rumor running around is that the PS3 will only allow a game to run on one machine. No more renting, trading or selling used games. http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=27568
