joystiq.com — SCEA has removed firmware 2.40, released early this morning, from its update servers. Users attempting to use the System Update feature from the PS3 XMB from firmware prior to 2.40 are now being told that their software is up to date.

no it doesn't. I've had my PS3 for almost 2 years and this is the first time I've heard of a Firmware problem.No it didn't brick my system either

I upgraded to the latest firmware version, it's working well, no hardware issues to note, the one problem is that the XMB while in-game does lag significantly, but I'm sure it will be addressed shortly. I have a good share of confidence on the Playstation 3 team, they've done nothing but good over the past year.

in my terms and in many others...brick refers to anything that breaks itself. Like when you do a bios update and it destroys your system. I've bricked my eeepc so many times trying to tweak it...but thank god it never turned into a complete brick.
