engadget.com — Sony is finally seeing the error of its ways, but instead of removing the crapware altogether, Sony has the nerve to offer a $50 "Fresh Start" option, which "scrubs" the machine clean before shipping it your way. At the moment you can only configure the TZ2000 crapware-free, but hopefully Sony will be rolling out the choice to the rest of its lapto

And one more thing, if the same thing had be done by Microsoft there would have been the usual antitrust, online petitions and so on.Sony? Who cares, buy another brand.

Yeah and with Vista Business, 100% of all media playback is no longer available. You can no longer play DVDs out of the box. All the Vista games are gone etc. They created Vista Business for offices that didnt want their employees watching movies or playing games. So you actually lose out with Vista Business and I guess Sony realizes this.

I think you missed the "option" part. It's not a manditery charge, you can still have your bloated system and pay less. The decision is in the hands of the customers unlike most other computer/laptop company. Personally I think the cash is a worth while investment as it would save a large amount of hassel over time. The first thing I do when getting a machine or reinstalling one is to remove the bloatware which takes time and effort and it's not like this is a one time thing, more like every 6 months or so (I like clean machines). But just because I can justify it doesn't mean everyone can and so Sony does the right thing by it's customers and gives them options.

My Inspirion 9400 (what a stupid name) I the balls. I bought it last Jan and have only a handfull of issues. i) the keyboard needed replacing after the Y and Left Arrow keys came off. Dell sent me a full keyboard no questions asked, no charge and within 2 days of my complaint.ii) The charge kit knackered after around 11 months (just inside the warrenty), Dell arranged for my dead charger to be picked up while at the same time dropping off the new charger. Again very quick service and again no charge. (still warrenty)iii) The battery needed replacing after around 6 months. It was past its recommended recharge limit and was only holding a third of its charge.iv) The screen aint as bright as it used to be, its as if there is an even amount of faint screen burn across the whole screen. White is not quite white anymore. I have the machine running 24/7 so it dont think it's doing all that bad but then the machine when I bought it was aimed at power users so.

The key that laptops come with is the OEM install key though, and it won't work with retail discs. But yeah everyone needs to reinstall with a clean version of Windows the moment they turn their computer on.

@luchidI understand what your saying, but it really is easier for Windows users to do stuff like this, then run Linux and have even more confusion..I personally don't run linux or any other OS on my desktop just because i can't run good games on linux.. well without wine and having to research how to install each game.i do like linux though, it really is a nice OS.
