1up.com — "The development team knew for awhile to expect something surprising from Sony with the new controller, and it came up with design ideas over a long period of time, but it was only in the past 10 days or so that it was able to actually physically implement the idea and get the game running with the new control scheme."

EricAnderton:Taking inflation into account, a $650 console in 1990 is similar to $966 in 2005, and $200 games would be like $297.Also, the average age of gamers has increased substantially since 1990, meaning the average gamer is more likely to have a job and more disposable income. Comparisons to the Neo-Geo are not at all valid.

skatingrox: cell support has been merged into the 2.6 kernel. Sony says linux will come preinstalled as well.Ubuntu has a PPC build, what's to prevent them from making a cell build? Same with fedora. I wonder if the cell could potentially speed up GCC builds... In which case distcc gentoo cell would be sweet. The problem is sony hasn't released enough info about what the ps3 is going to be preinstalled on the ps3's hard drive. It had better be a fully functional PC if they want us to spend $600.I'm not getting one until they get all the hardware bugs worked (look at the first generation PS1s and PS2s) out and the price drops wayy down.

You think that all PS2 owners are sadomasochists? You may not realize this, but the Dual Shock is the most beloved controller of the past two generations.

Nuvem...I would agree with you, but you are going to pay for next gen if you want it. A few months ago I was going through old boxes I had at the house, and saw the receipt for the Atari 2600 my parents got me for Christmas when it came out. I was shocked at the price tag. $374, back in the 80's that was a hell of alot more than $600 is today. My parents weren't rich either, but you get what you want, if you scrimp and save you get it. Fact of life. I know Sony is losing a some of their fans, but they will probably pick more up when it is released.

From another headline story on DIGG:"The controller is obviously a surprise to the industry," Harrison continued."We've been thinking about it for a while, but it's a relatively recent addition to the format. We didn't show it last year, because we weren't ready to."I guess it only became ready in the past 10 days. . .
