Well I have an 80GB model and it plays all of my ps2 games perfectly, and upscales them as well. If you want to play ps2 games keep your goddamn ps2 or buy a model that has backwards compatibility. Would you rather pay $500 for the 40GB and have the ps2 chips inside it? me neither.
I can't freakin believe a huge international company wants to make you buy the same crap year after year in a vein atempt at chasing ever increasing profit margins.
a time when early adopters didnt get screwed and now the late majority gets a hissy fit. should have at least bought a 20gb or 80gb one if you really cared about BC. nows it a matter of price once again.
Sony should have stood by their VERY vocal commitment to BC. I recently bought the 80GB model due to rumors that Sony was going to abandon BC. Well, the software EE just flat sucks. Wipeout Fusion will freeze at the fist turn, MGS 3 Snake Eater will lock up when it plays cut scene and GT4 won?t work in 1080i mode AND THE f**kING CONTROLLER DISCONNECTS WHEN YOU START AND STOP A PS2 GAME!
Or, fans can play their old PS2 which they most likely have if they have PS2 games. Or buy a $99 PS2 and maybe a $299 PS3 in the near future. At least Sony is trying, Microsoft kind of never bothered with real backwards compatibility because there were never any good games on the Xbox to bring forward except for Halo 1 and 2.
This should be free if you already own the game, or at least let you convert it to your hD for free.I doubt they would do that, they rather recharge you for it. Its like you have to pay for the same product, over and over and over.Nice to have games on your harddrive, so you dont have waste your bluray player.
Cant do that cuz you could just go to Gamefly and rip em all to your hard drive. If the physical game was that good, its worth another 20 bucks to have a digital copy on the hard drive.

Or you could've bought an 80 or 60 GB and not bitch about it. There's an idea!

Every PS3 is BC. The earlier models had the emotion chip from the ps2. The newer models all do it via software emulation. Stop the FUD.

I don't get your comment. If they removed ps2 BC, how can you buy&play ps2 games online?BC was never removed. Sony switched from HW to SW BC.
