Virginia Matheney and Calvin Thomas said touch-screen machines kept switching their votes from Democratic to Republican candidates. We still have a paper trail. The touch screen machine prints out a paper ticket every time somebody votes. In many states, they're legally required to verify the results by counting paper ballots manually.http://verifiedvoting.org/

okay, maybe you didn't see that i meant that you shouldnt need to calibrate a machine as simple as that. make it simpler, get rid of the touch screen, and just use buttons.

Last November I went to the polls because by law I am required to do. I am able to vote even if I have committed a felony and indeed even I had been in prison I could have still voted. After getting my name crossed off on the roll (no ID or card necessary) I voted on a piece of paper. I put a number 1 in the box beside the candidate I wanted to see get elected most and then 2, 3, 4, 5... for the other candidates according to my preference. If I had wished I could have spoiled my ballot. My ballot and all the other ballot papers were all put into a big box on public view all day and at the end of voting the first preferences were counted carefully by paid election officials observed by party scruitineers. After about two hours the votes were all counted and the results were transmitted to the central tally room. About three hours after that the national result was clear. All across the country in all the states and territories exactly same process was followed. In my area I suppose that not one candidate had spent more that about $100 000 on the their campaign. Most had spent less than $20 000. All candidates with more than 4.5% of the vote would receive public funding (post facto) and would have to declare the source of any donations they had received. That my poor benighted American friends is what a democratic election looks like,You don't have a democracy.

You can do it even more lo-cost. In Australia we use voting booths made from recycled cardboard.

You can't "calibrate" a computer. They ran software that claimed to check the code. That's it.

If you are concerned, write a letter to the editor of your local paper, call your Secretary of State, and spread the word! Warn people to watch when they vote!
