ecogeek.org — Apple just filed a patent for solar technology that would allow them to cover an entire iPod in solar cells, presumably to make the device less subject to tired batteries and the constraints of sucking energy from the socket.

Yeah but there's not much kinetic energy to be had in your pants pocket. Maybe on the ankle or wrist that would be doable. Solar could be useful when your sitting outside or under a light you can take it out of your pocket and leave it beside you.

Seeing as most LCD panels are backlit, I'd say it's not too easy to wedge in a solar cell that will collect light for power, and let light through for the backlight.

But he combined it with a kind of fusion to get all the power he needs.

Or patent a specific way of being an idiot?

Some nanotech-based "solar" cells convert ambient heat into electrical energy, so sunlight isn't the only source of power for them. Maybe your pocket could work too.http://www.ecogeek.org/content/view/1329/

I'm all pro solar energy, and all sorts of renewable energy! My passion about solar started with designing a solar powered water purification system for one of my relatives. The water from the wells had a lot of salt in it and not proper for drinking. It was very simple design too, he is still using it (8 years now). Now I sell solar stuff, on-line: www.fabulousstuff.co.uk and with the energy crisis people are seeing the point of getting free energy!
