seattlepi.nwsource.com — The Dream Home is a modern-day sequel to the Monsanto House of the Future, a Disneyland attraction from 1957 to 1967. The new Dream Home project, in Disneyland's Tomorrowland, includes some futuristic technology concepts, like its predecessor. Microsoft Surface computers are currently being deployed in commercial settings, so that scenario is

Man, feel the microsoft hate in here. It's sweltering. I for one applaud the idea of the Dream Home. Just shows the extent of technology we have available to us today. And sure, you could replace some of the components of the Home with your favorite OSS or Apple equivalent, but who had the idea to put it all together in a configuration first place? To be honest, Georgia Tech has a similar setup on their campus. It's a cool piece of showmanship, with occupant location tracking, notifications of damage/interruptions in the house, and plenty of little tweaks like measuring out daily medications for the grandparents, or dynamically adjusting ambient temperature based on certain phrases it overhears you say. One of the cooler features was a framed picture of grandma that changed to reflect her condition. If she hurt herself, it changed to a picture of her face in a sad pose, and that change was propagated to the little widget you had on your work computer. You people have a good time bashing this, but I want to see where all these years of technological advancement have gone! Now if I could only get that jetpack.....or that Minority Report interface.....-Chet

"One bedroom also includes a smart mirror that projects, on a person's reflection, virtual images of clothes from a nearby closet, reducing the need to actually put them on"Just imagine the quantity of porn that is going to spring up from these mirrors getting hacked. Hacking into a system + recording some chick naked = nerd FAP FAP FAP!

I agree, the technology is very cool in applications like this, and Microsoft has been leading the way in this for a long time. Google the tech in Bill Gate's own home. It uses all the same technology that you're talking about in the Georgia tech home, and has been over about a decade.

Hate to say this, but the current iteration of Zune is looking like a good contender, you just conveniently forgot to mention it. Also, Vista is rather similar to leopard, they both need some slimming, XP SP2 and Tiger will still be the workhorses on both platforms, although the current generation is getting better every time. Finally, the 3 RRoD is mostly fixed in current iterations of the Xbox 360, and the iPhone, although it has a shiny UI, is just now getting the 3rd party app support they needed from day 1 to truly call it a smartphone.
