Anyone who thinks this is a service pack knows very little about the mandate of an Operating System. The whole point is to improve speed and stability, not add functionality that is not required. I wonder if Microsoft has EVER released an OS that actually performed better than it's previous incarnation? (Ignoring Windows 7 which is a repaired version of Vista that they are charging for)
Out of all the above responses, yours makes Mac haters look the worst. This review has BENCHMARKS. This means actual data rather than "WOW MY NEW WINDOWS 7 HAS A TASKBAR (Dock) WITH ICONS (Like a dock) SO COOL!"
Windows 2000 was an extremely revolutionary change from Windows NT 4.0. Active Directory, Group Policy, Distributed File System, Dynamic Disks, Disk Quotas, Encrypting File System, Remote Management through the Microsoft Management Console... There was a new Kernel and a new Driver model. Major, major change!Windows Vista is a pretty major change as shipped. Aero certainly qualifies as a deep architectural change. If Vista had included the WinFS and moved file storage into a SQL database as planned that definitely would have represented a major change. Shadow Copy is a major change, although one only available on Ultimate, Business or Enterprise SKU's. Transactional NTFS is pretty damn neat. Indexed Search is nice. Even the much maligned User Account Control is a good idea with a poor implementation. Once again we got a new Kernel and new driver model.Once you toss out changes in Windows 7's version of Explorer, what are the deep architectural changes in Windows 7? There is a whole lot of enhancement to what has come before, but major changes? Nope. It's great that they have improved stability and lowered resource requirements. But let's face it, those are the sort of changes that have traditionally come from a service pack.
Some people do not understand the difference between price and value. It is simple division.Q: If you buy a $23k car that will last you 200k miles or $15k car that will last you 100k miles which one is the better value?A: The $23k car.200/23~=8.965 100/15~=6.666
"Apple doesn't even bother enforcing the requirement for upgrades"you mean updates? microsoft should enforce new updates to the user so that they are not vulnerable to security holes. windows is a target for malwares, worms, & viruses since it has a large market compare to mac."Compare that against the activated to the max Windows install which needs to check several times with Microsoft to determine your exact level of thievery and general uncleanness."you mean the geniune check and activation? well apple don't need that since they don't allow mac os to be installed in other pc brands. it should be on mac. and microsoft's main product is the software so, they should make some level of protection to deter piracy.

Simple answer: MS makes their money off of software, not hardware.

"Lightened and Enlightened"?All I hear is the sound of fanboys fapping over an overrated OS.

Did you actually boot up the 64 bit kernel?...I suppose that might not have really helped though. Ugh.
