It does show that Apple needs *some* sort of Application management. Throwing every app into your Applications directory works for when you only use Safari, Photoshop, and iLife (and you can just leave them in your dock), but as the number of apps increase, the more I wish there was something like the Gnome Applications menu... with all the apps categorized automatically.

Actually, I'm quite happy with my apps. As mentioned above (and probably will be mentioned below), Quicksilver is a great piece of software- probably ranks at the very top of my "best software" list. I keep my Dock very clean- only apps that stay in there are apps that are open, usually all the time (iCal, NetNewsWire, Mail, Adium, iTunes, Safari, etc). Part of my pet peeve is the Mac users you see with every single app they have shoved into the Dock... makes me shed a tear. But with Quicksilver I can access any app within a keystroke or three while simultaneously only using my Dock for apps that I want down there.edit - yay for larger edit windows now! Editing your comments in two lines is not too much fun.

What was wrong with just changing the background color of the applications folder to black?

Whoopee, another sneak preview of an app that one day will see the light of day. Am I the only one getting a tad tired of this trend? Wake me when something actually gets released.

I use Himmelbar, it's much easier to use than Todos but not having to squint at dozens of little tiny icons to find the one you want.

I'm a fan of Launcher by Odology (<a class="user" href="http://www.odology.com/)">http://www.odology.com/)</a> for $15, or Namely (does almost same thing @ <a class="user" href="http://amarsagoo.info/namely/index.shtml)">http://amarsagoo.info/namely/index.shtml)</a> for free. Using Dockless (<a class="user" href="http://homepage.mac.com/fahrenba/programs/dockless/dockless.html),">http://homepage.mac.com/fahrenba/programs/dockless/dockless.html),</a> you can keep namely hidden from the dock.I spoke with the namely author and he's making several improvements that'll be released in a couple weeks. If QuickSilver's too much for you (like me, I just need a simple launcher), Odology is the pick, but save $15 by getting Namely.
