reutershealth.com — Cigarette smokers have lower IQs than non-smokers, and the more a person smokes, the lower their IQ, a study in over 20,000 Israeli military recruits suggests. The smokers had significantly lower intelligence test scores than non-smokers, and this remained true even after the researchers accounted for socioeconomic status.

Are you honestly as lazy as you appear to be?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicotinic_acetylcholi ... (whole article)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicotine (psychoactive effects/adrenal medulla)A few more clicks and you can find all the information that you need. I shouldn't have to hold your hand through this now. Skimming will do nothing, especially if you do not understand the material. The best way to put it is how I described it above. I can't really offer any better explanation without enacting some sort of confusion to the readers assuming they have little or no background with physiology, molecular biology, etc. You can choose to believe me or not, it's your choice. But that doesn't mean that you are right. ;)

Well, I don't know that the article was aaall that irresponsible. They talked about sampling issues and gave the normal range of IQ variation and didn't sensationalize or embellish -- it was a lot better than a great deal of science journalism, even if not as good as seeing the actual paper. It's only the clueless Diggers that are misinterpreting its result as meaning "All smokers are stupid-heads".

Most of the smokers I know seem to enjoy life more than non-smokers.I don't think its such a great thing to have a high IQ. Read this provocative article to find out more information.http://hubpages.com/hub/Are-we-getting-too-smart

I smoke and I have an IQ of 156. Does that mean that only 1% of the population are non-smokers?
