cnn.com— The high-tech digital electricity distribution and transmission system known as the "Smart Grid" can be hacked, cybersecurity experts say, resulting in a massive blackout.

Smart metering technology has already been implemented in certain areas, and there haven't been any reported "hacks" thus far. Quite frankly, if you want to "hack" the power system to cause an outage, just get yourself an axe and chop down a distribution pole.
Retarded. In theory you could hack anything with $500 worth of computer equipment. You just have to be a f**king genius to get through some of the security measures.
Another load of FUD from IOActive. Anytime I see these guys quoted I know its going to be a load of BS. I saw their wonderboy Kaminsky speak at SecureWorld event a few months back. He was a complete idiot. It was outright insulting what he said. Of course IOActive and IntelliGuardians think the power system can be hacked - they want to make money solving the problem. I am so sick and tired of these "consultants" who are perpetually trying to create a market for their own services. IOActive is the worst of the worst. Its nothing but FUD and "the sky is falling!" type of sensationalism. Its dishonest at best and should be illegal. When our company was considering a security firm for an audit, I made darn sure those guys were NOT on the short list.
The mars rovers *could* be hacked. President Obama's BlackBerry *clould* be hacked. The latest Boeing jet liner *could* be hacked. The polar ice caps *might* melt. The sun *might* burn out. None of these things have happened and there's no way to tell if they actually will happen. This is simply hypothetical scaremongering and FUD.

I agree with Biscuitz.

I require electricity to live my life. Why would we want to cause a blackout?

Well if it's any help, I thought it was saying I could get 500 dollars if I hacked the system. Lol
