Couldn't they just have it read grocery receipts? Because I could imagine if they went the barcode route, it'd be hard to input produce and other items that don't usually have a barcode.
What's wrong with RFID tags? I think it'd be awesome if I had a smart kitchen that could take inventory for me. Not only could it generate recipes, it could generate grocery lists when it notices I'm out of something. Heck, it could automatically restock by purchasing at Amazon.
