thinksecret.com — Apple's decision to unleash Intel-based Mac systems six months ahead of schedule is proving less successful than the company anticipated. Two weeks following the Macworld Expo San Francisco keynote, sources report that sales of the Intel-based iMac are lower than Apple expected.

"steve balmer: "develpers developers developers.." clap, clap, clapsteve jobs: "screw the developers! i know we said we would give them a year, but we don't need no stinking universal binaries.""Wait, what? Apple releases the computers EARLY to get them in the hands of MORE DEVELOPERS and still offers the older machines for sale at the same exact price and configuration? Furthermore, giving the developers a FREE iMac if they bought the dev kits, a machine that they can KEEP?? I don't see this being detrimental. Even if major vendors are lagging behind, it's a good faith gesture to kick them into gear and get their products shipping. Apple said they are giving them a year, and so far they have done nothing to retract on that. Instead, they've launched co-operative products to the ones already on the market, targeted at people who most likely didn't get their hands on a dev box, or who are just early adopters all the way around. That being said, there is always a hesitance to buy first-generation Apple devices. This was true with all of the iPods, all of Apple's laptops, and to some degree, the Macintosh itself. It's not that they are cutting corners as much as little things can easily slip through the cracks and make a good product not seem so good after all. I'll be purchasing my Intel Mac sometime mid-summer when more of the bugs get worked out, and when I can afford it :-p

This story is bogus and has been debunked. No Digg!

This is usually a pretty slow quarter for Apple anyway. Plus who wants to pay to beta test this stuff?

The main reason people arent buying is because of losers on digg (just those few losers that make s**t up, not the vast majority!), losers on /. that report lies like "DUDE, the iMac witht the Intel chips arent even gonna ship til March!" and s**t like that. THAT is what is hampering people. I have heard idiots in BestBuy say this EXACT SAME STUPID QUOTE. A quote which Jobs never said, what he said at MacWorld was, THEY ARE SHIPPING RIGHT NOW. He meant the new iMacs withiNtel iNside were actually shipping WHILE HE WAS SPEAKING THE ACTUAL KEYNOTE.And I have NEVER owned a Mac! But I know how to crash one.....at work.....oops.
