I use dmenu to launch my programs. You pipe it a list of items for autocompletion, and it sends the one you pick to standard output, which you can then execute. I used Xbindkeys to bind "$( ls $( echo $PATH | sed -e s/:/ /g ) | sed -e s/^.*://g | dmenu )" to a key, which lets me press the menu key, type a few letters, and hit enter to launch whatever program I'm after. Much better than keeping a terminal hanging around, and it doesn't require me to add each program I want to run to a list. And it takes no resources, of course, since it doesn't run unless I'm using it to launch a program.

I don't like it, sort of a waste of time imho. Sure it has aliases and stuff, but it's not a new concept at all. I think there's a Firefox extension that does most of the things I'd want out of SlickRun, so I'll go with that. Plus, the UI isn't that great (even if it is a small CLI, I've seen better). The concept of it is great, but the program isn't, really.

You should really try PCchat ( <a class="user" href="http://www.rovatronic.net/PCchat.htm)">http://www.rovatronic.net/PCchat.htm)</a> From command line you can launch , stop or uninstall applications, delete files and remove programs from start-up. And the cool thing is you cand use TAB key for autocompletion.

because........... the Run command is limited........ it doesn't do this kind of shorthand, or "magic words" as it's called in SR. Just try the software and you'll see.Actually, all of you people repeating this question. And for the gay boys in the "mac does it better" camp........ who gives a s**t. Get over your Windows envy, shell out a little money for a PC and XP. That way, you won't feel so left out.
