bigblueball.com — Skype is surveying users to determine what they would pay for a Skype subscription service on their cell phone. There are some interesting features being considered, including file transfer, geo-locator services, and of course, Skype voice calls and conferencing. But would you pay for it?

I might actually consider paying for this, if it worked out to save me money on international calls.

Not exactly a replacement for your cell phone, because it works ON your cell phone. What's not clear is whether it uses regular cell connections, then VoIP on the backend, or if it uses VoIP end-to-end using a data connection. If the latter, it implies a high-speed data rate (I would think).

If the latter then maybe it won't do so well, because only newer phones support high data transfer rates. I would prefer that it use cellular communications and then VoIP at the backend, but I'm leaning towards the direct data idea.
