techcrunch.com — More than a decade after Microsoft killed off Netscape with Internet Explorer, competition in the browser market has never been stronger. Just last week, Mozilla released Firefox 3.5, which has now been downloaded nearly 14 million times. Earlier in June, Apple released Safari 4.

Funny I was exploring the world and internet with Explorer when Firefox was still a fetus. You can cry as much as you want, but showing up to the game late and claiming victory is pretty lame.

@diggduggjoe"My dream is a cell phone that I could connect USB devices to augment the usefulness. Display, keyboard, mouse, speakers and/or external drives would rock. Hell, I wouldn't need a PC!"Skip the phone use a USB flash mem and PortableApps.http://portableapps.com/Perhaps your moby phone can even work as a USB flash mem, then your are all set to go.

Question is, what are those other browsers, except for Opera? They ARE performing well.

Firefox is Netscape is Mosaic is the original graphical web browser. MS also licensed the Mosaic code-base, later, and went on to bludgeon Netscape to death by bundling IE with Windows which was bundled with anything made of silicon, and by extorting computer manufacturers with threats of hugely expensive Windows licenses if they'd also bundle Netscape/Firefox. Once the mission of extinguishing the upstart was accomplished, IE development died, while Netscape open-sourced their browser, had it largely re-written, and slowly started eating market-share back, *despite* IE still being bundled with anything that ticks. Once that happened, somehow, IE development started up again, although the results aren't impressive.
